Young Chef’s Challenge

This activity is a partnership with the YMCA Youth Center. Students will compete for the traveling Young Chef’s Challenge trophy.

The Idea: Give young men and women between the ages of 12-18 the opportunity to learn to cook great food, compete, and earn rewards for their efforts.

The Commitment: 3 months (one day per week, [each Monday] with 3 competitions). Each meeting will be 60-90 minutes. 3 Tuesdays for reward activities.

This activity will run once per year (March, April, and May). Specific schedules will be available as each event approaches.

What Happens: students will be taught how to prepare various proteins each week, then choose sides dishes to complete the meal. In week four of each month, the students will cook for local personalities or local chefs who will judge the items and give feedback.

Students will be challenged to maintain good school attendance and grades to participate. Students will learn a valuable life skill as well as discover possibly a talent and passion for cooking. Students will learn healthy competition. Students will get to meet and talk with local personalities.
